About
Jacobus Hendrik Pierneef (1886–1957) is one of South Africa's most celebrated and iconic artists. Known for his distinctive stylised landscapes of the South African bushveld, his work captures the vast skies, flat-topped thorn trees, and rolling terrain of the highveld and Karoo with a geometric clarity influenced by Art Nouveau and Art Deco. His monumental station panel paintings for the former Johannesburg railway station remain landmarks of South African art.
