About
Charles Oppenheimer (1875-1961) was a Dutch-born painter who settled in Kirkcudbright and became one of the colony's most prolific chroniclers of the town and its surrounding landscape. His paintings of Kirkcudbright harbour, the High Street, and the Galloway countryside capture the changing light and seasons with a luminous, impressionistic technique. His work provides an invaluable visual record of the town during the colony's golden years.
